There is something so satisfying and cozy about sipping on a creamy hot chocolate. I created my own 'healthy' hot chocolate elixir that's creamy, chocolatey and satisfying but also has some amazing health benefits because I'm always looking for ways to make recipes that feel indulgent but are actually healthy and completely appropriate to eat all times of the day (#chocolateforbreakfast). The chocolate flavor comes from cacao powder, a natural mood elevator and anti-depressant that is an incredible plant-based source of magnesium, iron, calcium and antioxidants. It blends so well with the creamy milk, coconut butter, cinnamon, and nutmeg for a smooth chocolate flavor. I add bee pollen because I'm obsessed with the subtle honey flavor and it is an incredible immune booster and anti-inflammatory. I look forward to those slow mornings when I can sip on this and get cozy on the couch. It's also delicious with a shot of espresso for a low-sugar mocha! Cheers!


*Makes 1 serving

  • 2 T cacao powder (I like Navitas Organics)

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or oat milk (can sub any plant-based milk)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 T coconut butter

  • 2 dashes nutmeg

  • 1 tsp bee pollen

  • Maple syrup or honey (option for sweetener)


  1. Melt coconut butter in a pot on the stove over low heat.

  2. Add almond milk to the pot and blend completely with almond milk.

  3. Add remaining ingredients and stir until completely blended and warm.

  4. Enjoy warm!
